The United Nations has declared 2008 the International Year of Languages. One of the main thrusts behind it is to get people to learn languages and make an attempt to communicate with others in their mother tongue. It is a way of making people feel well and at home and relieving their stress. By talking to others in their own language you help develop their sense of belonging and wellbeing and you build bridges.
